BP & White House Agree To $20 Billion Escrow Account

BP Agrees to Account to Handle Claims

BP Chief Executive Officer Tony Hayward and BP America Chairman Lamar McKay, left, and BP Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg, right, arrive at the White House today for a meeting with President Barack Obama. BP and the Obama administration reached a tentative agreement during the meeting under which the oil company will place $20 billion in an escrow account to pay claims stemming from the spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The fund will be administered by Ken Feinberg, who oversaw the compensation fund for victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. (Wash Post, 6/16/2010)
