President Obama Nominates John Bryson as Commerce Secretary

President Obama has nominated John Bryson to replace Gary Locke as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce.  Gary Locke has been nominated as the next ambassador to China..  John Bryson is a co-founder of the Natural Resources Defense Council, served as CEO of Edison International, a California-based electric power generator, for 18 years. Edison International is the parent company of Southern California Edison, a major U.S. electric utility company.  Bryson spent was chairman of the California State Water Resources Control Board in the late 1970s and head of the California Public Utilities Commission. Bryson is also board chairman of BrightSource Energy, a California-based solar company.  He previously served as a co-chairman of the Electric Drive Transportation Association, an electric vehicles trade association, and as a member of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Advisory Group on Energy and Climate Change.
