Republican California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger leaves office this week as a green governor. He will be remembered for working with Democrats and environmentalists to pass the Global Warming Solutions Act (AB 32), legislation that requires emissions of greenhouse gases in the state to be reduced to 1990 levels by 2020. The Center supported the bill. The legislation was passed and signed in September 2006.
The Center also opposed Proposition 23, which sought to suspend AB 32, until the state's 12.4 percent unemployment rate dropped to 5.5 percent or less for four consecutive quarters.
The Terminator recently floated a trial balloon indicating that he would accept a position as an "energy czar" in President Obama's Democratic administration. The position is currently held by Carol Browner, who is rumored to be shifting to White House Deputy Chief of Staff.
